CUSC 'Alumni Spotlight' - DARCY CUNNINGHAM

CAMPTON NATION!

We're honored to be featuring Darcy Cunningham in our final Alumni Spotlight for 2018. Darcy is a 2x United Soccer Coaches 1st Team  All American, both on and off the field during her career at Washington University - St Louis.

Darcy played at Campton United for 10 years and was a 4-year starter on varsity for St Charles East helping to lead the Saints to the  2014 state title game and being named All-State her senior season. At WashU, she was a 4-year starter in the midfield helping the Bears to 3 NCAA DIII Final Fours including the 2016 NCAA Championship.

Needless to say, we at Campton are proud of Darcy and all of her accolades. She is a fantastic role model for all of our young female athletes at Campton!

Please enjoy Darcy's words!

What has your experience been like playing at WashU?

Playing for WashU has helped me grow both as a person and a player. Our coach instills the drive to win and accountability which contributes to our success. While winning soccer games is one of my favorite things to do, the time spent learning from and being inspired by my teammates has been invaluable. I am truly grateful that I played soccer at WashU because I would not be the person I am today.

How do you think Campton United SC helped you get to where you are now?

Campton United invests in the development of its players. They foster a soccer culture built on both tactic and technical ability. Playing at Campton gave me the tools I needed to play college soccer.

What was your favorite moment from your time at Campton United?

My favorite moments at Campton occurred at practices. After a long day at school, it was always nice coming to play with my team because everyone - including the coaches - brought a fun sense of humor to each training session.

What has been your favorite moment so far at WashU?

Winning the National Championship my sophomore year made all of the work I had put into soccer worth it. You don’t realize what moment you’re working towards until you get there. I could never have imagined getting to the pinnacle of DIII soccer, but it was most certainly the highlight of my soccer career.

What advice would you give to players who have the goal to play at the next level in College?

My biggest advice for younger players choosing the college soccer program for them is to make sure that they like the people on their visit. While the soccer component should be a large portion of your decision, the people create your experience and can become lifetime friends beyond the four years you spend on the pitch.
