CUSC 'Alumni Spotlight' - ZOE WELSH

CUSC Alumni Spotlight #9.

Campton Nation!

It is a pleasure to have Zoe Welsh be this week CUSC Alumni Spotlight. Zoe is a freshman at St Cloud State University (MN) and has made an impact in her first year as a collegiate player. We at Campton are very proud of her! Please enjoy Zoe's words! #camptonnation #cuscalumnispotlight #camptontocollege

What's your experience like playing for St. Cloud?
Playing for St. Cloud State has been such a joy. From the first day I walked in for preseason, I have had such a wonderful experience and I am so grateful for the opportunity to play every day. Getting to know the team and the coaches have been such a wonderful time. The friendships I made in the course of only two weeks was fantastic. I created a bond with my teammates and coaches that helped us achieve our goals all throughout the season. The speed of play definitely changed and I was so grateful for all the help and support from my team to help me adapt.

How do you think Campton United SC helped you get to where you are now?
Campton United has given me the confidence, coachability, and leadership to help me succeed as a collegiate goalkeeper. Coming into Campton my sophomore year, I was very nervous because I knew I was playing with the best girls at the highest division in Illinois. Since Campton United was my fifth club, I was very nervous about what was coming ahead. However, from the first practice, my teammates and coaches were nothing but accepting and wonderful people. I gained so much knowledge on how to be a better player, better teammate and a better leader. Campton taught me that everything in life is earned and not given; starting from our team’s great atmosphere and energy that gave us all the opportunity to achieve greatness.

What was your favorite moment from your time with Campton United SC?
My favorite moment from Campton was definitely the national tournament. Our team had been growing and achieving so much to finally earn a spot in the national tournament. We had a great year by winning our MRL league, National League, going undefeated until our regional game and getting second overall in the national tournament. Being a senior and having so many seniors on that team, being able to achieve so much meant a lot for our last club season. All of us had gotten so close over the year and even though we had gotten second, we all were so grateful for the achievements we made together as a team and how excited we were for the new experiences we would all have in college.

What has been your favorite moment so far at St. Cloud?
My favorite moment at St. Cloud was definitely the game we played Northern State University and we had the game dedicated to R33M. R33M is a non-profit charity that funds research for pediatric brain cancer. It all started from a little boy named Ross who passed away from pediatric brain cancer at the age of 11; he had a love and passion for the game of hockey. This game was dedicated to Ross and the R33M foundation. That game meant so much to myself and Ross’s family. As we were playing the game, it was as if our whole team dynamic changed. We were playing with so much passion and were playing the game with so much quality as a team. We ended up winning the game 2-0 and it felt as if Ross was with us that game; the passion he had for hockey was represented through our team by playing the best game we could.

What advice would you give to players who have the goal to play at the next level in College?
The most important piece of advice I would give to those looking to play in college is to put the work in now so that you are ready and prepared for the next level. Making healthy choices and starting good habits will continue through your college career.

Thank you Campton United for giving me the opportunity to play collegiate soccer and for the amazing friendships I have made from my teammates! Go, Campton!
