Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month!

Campton Nation

Campton United has chosen to “Go Gold” for the month of September - Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month!  We will wear gold socks for games during the month to pay tribute and honor those children who have fought, are fighting, or will fight this terrible disease.  These socks have been generously donated by Cal’s Angels, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is Granting Wishes, Raising Awareness and Funding Research to help kids fighting cancer.

Socks will be delivered to Team Coordinators beginning tomorrow and they will distribute to players.

Here are some facts relating to pediatric cancer:

  • Cancer is the number one killer among children
  • Blood cancers are the most common type of pediatric cancer
  • One in 285 children in the US will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 20
  • Two-thirds of childhood cancer patients will have long-lasting chronic conditions from their treatment
  • Childhood cancer research is grossly underfunded, with only 4% of the government’s research dollars allocated
  • Sadly, the Fox Valley community has not been immune to it.  In the past 11 years, Cal’s Angels have helped serve over 75 children in the Fox Valley alone!

Please help us spread awareness and education for pediatric cancer.
