Campton Girls Turn Heads at Disney

Campton United Continue to Turn Heads at Disney Girls Showcase

The U15 and U16 Navy spent part of their Christmas Break in Orlando, FL at the Disney Girls Showcase, the #1 tournament in the country.  It is hosted at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  Hundreds of teams from around the country ascend on this spot every New Year’s Eve weekend to watch some of the best players in the country.  Over 200 coaches watched our players in Orlando.  Schools from across the United States were on our sidelines watching our student-athletes compete at the highest level of youth soccer.  It is again a testament to the training, philosophy, players, parents, and coaching staff that we are being recognized from some of the top soccer schools.  Once more, it proves that we are on the right path of soccer development for all our players throughout the club.

U15 Navy Girls Continue Their Run In National League

Orlando, FL- The U15 Navy Girls continued their talented play in National League during the Christmas Break.  The U15NG traveled to Orlando, FL to finish their National League campaign.  The U15NG sat first in their group after 4 matches in early December.  They looked to continue their good form in Orlando.

The girls would face some stiff competition in their first match at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports.  Triangle FC from North Carolina took the game to the U15 Navy Girls in the first half, but the girls held tight and escaped to halftime with a 0-0 score line.  The second half saw some better play from the U15’s, but Triangle got on the board first with a free kick scramble in the box.  Campton put the heat on after the goal was scored and Triangle came up with a second one late in the half.  Campton suffered their second loss in National League.

The next day brought on the Sunrise Sting from Florida.  Sunrise was considered to be one of the top teams in the group and they proved it.  Early on in the second match, Sunrise proved one of the best teams Campton had faced all season.  It was a war that saw neither side give anything up until the 67th minute when a penalty was awarded to Sunrise Sting.  Campton had the better of the chances to this point, but now Sunrise was 12 yards from going up 1-0.  Katie Montgomery came up with a great save and preserved a 0-0 draw to earn Campton a point for the game.  One college coach remarked afterwards, “This was the most exciting game he had seen at Disney so far.”

After the game, the U15 Navy Girls sat tied for second in their group with one game to play.  Up next was a tough team from Massachusetts, South Shore Select.  The game would get started quickly for Campton United and by halftime up 3-0.  The game would prove to be a huge offensive display for the girls after not scoring the first 2 games.  Hannah Rittenhouse would go on to net 4 goals for the 15’s and finish up the score line 5-2 and 3 point for the good guys.  Rittenhouse currently sits atop the National League with 7 goals scored.  We now wait for the rest of the National League games to be completed in March to see if the U15s will return to the USYSA National Championships in July.

U16 Navy Girls Finish 3rd at Disney Girl’s Showcase

Orlando, FL- The U16 Navy Girls traveled to Disney for the second year in a row to take on some of the best teams in the country.  First up was Patriot FC from Pennsylvania.  Campton United struck first, but Patriot FC would tie the game off a throw-in set play.  With the score 1-1, there was definitely a stalemate between the two sides until late in the second when Patriot FC would get on a loose ball and put it away for a 2-1 win.

After dropping their first game, the U16 Navy Girls would take on GotSoccer.com’s #1 team in the country at U16, QuickStrike FC from New York.  From the outset, both teams looked dangerous in the attack.  Campton would strike first on a miscue from the NY goalkeeper, but Quickstrike made it 1-1 shortly after.  The scoreline would stick until the second half when Hailey Rydberg was taken down in the box.  Rydberg would score from the spot to make it 2-1.  Quickstrike would roar back and tie the game at 2-2.  The game looked to be headed for a draw when Jenna Dombrowski slotted a ball behind the Quickstrike back line to Peyton Willie.  WIllie controlled the ball and lifted a shot into the upper corner to put the score at 3-2 and 3 points for the Campton United side.

Campton would control its destiny and with a win play in the third place game on Sunday.  Burlington SC out of North Carolina was no match for Campton.  The U16 Navy Girls would cruise to a win and play their old foe, Team Chicago in the third place game.  Campton came out rolling in the first half.  By halftime, the U16s were up 3-0 and never looked back.  The game finished 6-1 and the third place trophy went to the U16 Navy Girls.
