STEPHANIE HOWE

Campton Nation!

It is a pleasure to feature Stephanie Howe of MIT in our Alumni Spotlight!

Stephanie currently plays her soccer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Stephanie was part of our 2000/2001 USYS Group that was ranked #1 in the nation for 2 years; winning Regionals, 2 Nationals League and a bunch of State Cups along the way!

Campton Nation is incredibly proud of Stephanie and all of her achievements; she is an unbelievable player but an even better person!

Enjoy Steph's words!

What’s your experience like playing for MIT?

So far it's been a super exciting experience playing for a new program and new team! Playing soccer here has not only challenged me athletically, but mentally as well. It requires a lot of discipline and hard work to perform here both on the field and in the classroom. I couldn't have asked for a better group of teammates to help push each other to the next level and create lifelong friendships in the process!

How do you think Campton United SC helped you to get where you are now?

There is no doubt that Campton has played a large role in shaping me into the player and person I am today. I am so lucky to have had an amazing coaching staff as well as a highly competitive team to play with. Every practice was a new challenge and another day of competition in which my teammates pushed one another to be better. The expectations on my team went beyond what we did in practice. Everyone knew they had to put in the work off the field as well, and it showed! Campton really encouraged this culture of self driven hard work, and gave me the opportunity to play high level soccer all over the country, which constantly challenged me to improve as a player while playing the game I love!

What was your favorite moment from your time with Campton United SC?

Thinking of all the memories and trips I shared at Campton, it's hard to settle on one! I have to say one of the most memorable, yet bittersweet memories was our 3rd trip to Nationals in Texas when we made it to the finals. I'll never forget the feeling of advancing out of the semis, and while we lost in the finals, it was no doubt an amazing trip to close out probably the best season of soccer I've played so far.

What has been your favorite moment so far at MIT?

My favorite moment so far at MIT has been travelling to Williams, who won NCAAs last year, and beating them for the first time in program history. After our best performance of the year, we were able to celebrate with a tailgate on a beautiful day! It felt good not only to win, but to know we did it with a solid team performance all around, which helped propel us to one of our best seasons yet!

What advice would you give to players who have the goal to play at the next level in College?

My best advice would be to take advantage of every moment to make yourself a better player and teammate. It's easy to get in the habit of skipping a practice, checking out, or going through the motions, but none of those things will help you get to the next level. Don't be afraid to get out there and do extra conditioning, reach out to that coach, or sit down with someone and discuss your goals. Equally as important is to be patient, wait for the right opportunity to come, and don't settle. Personally, I took until my senior spring to finally decide what program and school was right for me. It was a long road, but definitely worth holding out in the end. Put in the work that it takes, and your time will come!
