CLAUDIA NAJERA - CUSC 'ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Campton Nation!

We are delighted to announce that we will be running a CUSC Alumni Spotlight every week throughout the 2019/2020 soccer season.  These spotlights will give some insight to our former player's experiences in the youth game and also in the College game.

Our 1st issue for the 2019/2020 season will be on Claudia Najera of Iowa State University (NCAA DI).  Claudia played for Campton United her entire youth career where she earned the opportunity to go play NCAA DI soccer.  During her career at Campton, Claudia was also an Assistant Coach in our younger girls program! Claudia is one of the most talented players Campton has produced, she is a competitor and all-around fantastic person... please enjoy her words.

1- What's your experience like playing for Iowa State University?

My experience playing at Iowa state has been great so far. I have become really good friends with all of my teammates and I have already grown as a player so much. I have learned how to manage my time with traveling and school work and how to balance my day. I have been able to travel all around the country and play against some of the top programs in the country which has helped teach me what I need to improve on.

2- How do you think Campton United helped you to get where you are now?

Campton helped me grow as a player and help give me the opportunity to play at the next level. I was able to learn my strengths and weaknesses and be able to play against the best clubs in the country. It taught me how to be a good teammate and how to be a coachable player. I also learned how important it is to work hard and have a good attitude and what it takes to win. The coaches at Campton really helped me develop good foot skills and how to play the game at a high level. Unrelated to soccer, playing at campton helped me to meet some of my best friends and create lifelong relationships that I will cherish forever.

3- What's your favorite moment from your time with Campton United?

My favorite memory with Campton United was going to nationals in Texas and getting second. It was a great experience to be able to play in a National Final and getting to play with my best friends.

4- What's has been your favorite moment so far at Iowa State University?

My favorite moment so far was traveling to California to play UCLA and getting the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the country.

5- What advise would you give to players who have the goal to play at the next level in College?

Some advice I have for players who want to play at the next level is to stay invested and to always give 100% of your effort whether it’s in practice or games. I would also say it’s important to put in work on your own time and to set goals and try your best to achieve them. Lastly, it’s really important to keep a positive attitude and always have a growth mindset. You should always be open to feedback, and work on what you need to work on because there is always a way to get better. You need to be able to push yourself to be better than you were the day before, and that will help make you a better player. You also have to be confident and believe in yourself which will help bring you more success.
