It is our pleasure to feature Michael Delaney in our CUSC Alumni Spotlight! After winning a NPL National Championship with Campton United U18 Boys, Michael has led a stellar career at Dominican University including All-Conference, All-Region and Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Player name: Michael Delaney

College/University: Dominican University

What was your experience been like playing in college?

My experience while playing in college has been very fun as I got to become a better soccer player and individual alongside my teammates/ now life long brothers. This has happened with the help of the coaching staff who treats us like professionals and who are passionate about the game but understand that our education is our first priority.

How did Campton United SC help you get to where you are now?

Campton SC helped me because when I joined the team I knew few people, so it forced me to branch out and meet new friends to help better the team chemistry. Campton SC also helped with exposing players to college coaches on a regular basis which allowed me to chose a university that had everything I wanted in a school.

What was your favorite moment from your time at Campton United?

My favorite moment from my time at Campton United would be when we won the NPL National Championship. The level of competition brought out the best of the team and it really felt like we were invincible, we had injuries but we stuck together as a team and brought back the Championship.

What has been your favorite moment in college so far?

My favorite moment in college was getting to the National tournament and passing the first round for the first time in six years. We battled as a team in the second round but ended up losing with a goal in the final two minutes of play. Though we lost this was my favorite moment because I was proud of my team and how we were able to prove a lot of people wrong who didn't even believe we would get out of our conference playoffs.

What advice would you give to players who have the goal to play at the collegiate level?

The advice I would give to those who want to play at the collegiate level is to be at a club that has connections to college coaches and tournaments where you will also be able to play in front of them, such as Campton. If you truly want to play at the next level don't make excuses for why you cannot play or should not play, put yourself out there-there is a college/university for you.
